Trust

Trust the reasoning, not just the answer.

HUBL keeps the evidence, assumptions and uncertainty behind a developing view visible, so you can understand what supports it, what could challenge it and where judgement is still required.

Why trust matters

A confident answer can still be a weak answer.

Business decisions can look deceptively certain when evidence is incomplete, assumptions remain hidden, sources disagree or important context is missing.

The decision-maker needs to understand why a view deserves confidence, not only whether it sounds convincing.

The basis of a view

Keep the basis of the view visible.

Trust comes from being able to examine how a developing view is formed, where it is supported and what might change it.

Supported judgement
A developing view is shaped by what supports it, what is assumed, what remains uncertain and what could challenge it.

Four principles

Trust is built through behaviours that stay visible.

01

Evidence

What supports or contradicts the developing view should remain visible enough to inspect.

02

Assumptions

What is currently being treated as true should be clear when it materially affects the decision.

03

Uncertainty

What remains unknown, unresolved or dependent on future events should not be hidden.

04

Challenge

Important views should be open to conflicting evidence, alternative explanations and change.

Evidence

Evidence should be inspectable.

HUBL should help distinguish between:

  • information you supplied;
  • information HUBL investigated;
  • observations and interpretation;
  • assumptions shaping the view.

Where evidence supports an important part of the developing view, its role should remain understandable. Where evidence conflicts, the conflict should not simply disappear into a confident conclusion.

Assumptions

Assumptions should not hide inside the answer.

Many decisions depend on things that are not yet established facts: expected demand, future costs, implementation capability, competitor behaviour, adoption, timing or strategic priorities.

If an assumption materially affects the decision, it should be visible enough to examine and challenge.

Uncertainty

Uncertainty is information.

Not knowing something can itself matter. HUBL should not manufacture certainty merely to make an answer feel complete.

A useful view distinguishes what is well supported, what is plausible but uncertain, what remains unresolved and what could change the conclusion.

Challenge

Important views should survive challenge.

HUBL should not merely accumulate supporting evidence. An investigation should also notice conflicting evidence, alternative explanations, weak assumptions and material reasons the emerging view may be wrong.

Two credible sources may disagree, internal information may conflict with external evidence, or a new observation may weaken an earlier conclusion. The next step may be further investigation, validation, reconsideration, context from the user, or accepting that uncertainty remains.

Context

Context matters.

Understanding the origin and role of information makes a developing view easier to inspect. That means distinguishing information you provided, information HUBL investigated, assumptions being made and interpretation developed during the investigation.

It is not a promise of forensic-grade provenance. It is a commitment to making the basis of a view more understandable.

Decision ownership

Consequential judgement remains human.

HUBL can structure the problem, investigate, compare evidence, expose assumptions, identify uncertainty and develop a supported view.

Context, values, accountability and consequential judgement remain with the decision-maker. HUBL supports judgement; it does not autonomously execute consequential decisions.

A candid boundary

Trust does not mean pretending uncertainty has disappeared.

Trust does not mean:

  • every source is correct;
  • every unknown can be resolved;
  • every assumption can be proven;
  • every decision has one objectively correct answer;
  • HUBL should replace professional judgement.

It means making the basis, limits and uncertainty of a developing view easier to inspect.

Information handling

Trust also includes how information is handled.

HUBL is being developed with security, privacy and responsible information handling as core product requirements. Detailed information about production controls, data handling and enterprise security will be published as those capabilities are finalised.

Throughout the investigation

Trust is part of the investigation, not something added afterwards.

Evidence, assumptions, uncertainty and challenge matter throughout the investigation. They help make a supported view easier to understand before a consequential decision is made.
